STUDENT ACTIVITIES

CONGRATULATIONS MR. JON SHORES AND OUR BROPHY GOLF STATE CHAMPIONS – Congratulations to the golf team for their 1st place finish at the 2018 Division 1 state championship.  The team battled Chaparral and Hamilton on day 2 until finally pulling away on the last few holes to secure the victory.  Special congratulations to Zack Missigman for his runner up finish on the individual side and to Tony Hendricks for his 3rd place finish, both finishing the 36-hole event under par.

CONGRATULATIONS BRONCOS!  Brophy Students Joshua Leslie ’19, Justin Loo ’19, Greyson Taylor ’19, and Jackson Whitaker ’20, were recently inducted into the 2019 Jack and Jill of American Phoenix Chapter, Men of Valor 20th Biannual Beautillion.  The event will take place at 6 p.m., March 30, 2019, at the Wild Horse Pass Resort.   Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty.

Hermanos Unidos invites everybody to participate in this year’s Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead ofrenda table. All are welcome to a place a non-valuable item (copy of a picture, small item, etc) that reminds them of a lost loved one as this week we remember and honor those who have passed.  If you place an item on the ofrenda, please pick it up at the end of school on Friday.

Open House Tour Guides still needed for this Sunday! The Admissions Office is still looking for students willing to help out for a 2-hour shift this Sunday during the annual Open House. If you can help, please contact Mrs. Scheuring at sscheuring@brophyprep.org as soon as possible. We will provide you with the training you need. In addition, students on work-study can receive credit for their time helping.

Open House Tour Guide Training Meetings – Students who are helping out with Open House tours on Nov. 4 need to attend 2 training sessions.  Also, you are enrolled in a Canvas course for the Red & White Club 2018-2019 which has all of the important Open House documents.  Thursday @ Lunch in B105

Juniors – Come meet and have a pizza lunch with Ms. Renke on Tuesday, Nov. 6. She wants to get to know you better, so the first 30 juniors to sign up in the Dean’s Office will share their lunch hour with Ms. Renke. The sign-up sheet will be available beginning Monday, Oct. 29. The pizza lunch will be served in the Faculty Lounge which is located off of the McCain Colonnade.

 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY – St. Thomas the Apostle carnival is looking for BCP student volunteers for their Carnival on Sat. Nov. 10th. You are needed from 11:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Please call or text Ms. Jen Smith at (602) 931- 3316 if you can help.

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. Sunday, November 4, 2018 – Fall 2018 Open House – 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Brophy’s premier admission event is open to the public with no sign-up required. Join us for campus tours and information on academic programs, co-curricular activities, financial aid, transportation, and the admissions process. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to students, faculty, administration, coaches, and parents. Students of all ages are invited to attend with their parents – it’s never too early to think about being a Brophy Bronco!

Tours will begin at 12:30 p.m. and leave approximately every 20 minutes. Check in at Harper Great Hall to begin your tour.    All ages are welcome                No dress code               No registration required

Please park in the south parking lot or follow the directions of our parking lot volunteers.

ATHLETICS

New Intramural Sport – One Bounce Volleyball is here – Click here for rules and to sign-up!  We understand that with any new sport there will be questions – don’t hesitate to find Coach Antonioli (FAntonioli@brophyprep.org) or shoot him a note if you want a little more information about how the game will be played.

Brophy TRACK AND FIELD coaches will lead a fitness training for BCP students on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-5pm from now until Christmas Break.  These sessions will include flexibility, speed, and speed endurance activity at BSC from 3 – 4:15, and then finish in the weight room from 4:20-5pm.  Consider track & field as a sport for you – it is fun to compete in any of the 18 events and you can build athleticism, explosiveness, and speed for your other sports.  Contact Mr. Kalkman with any questions about these workouts, or for information about Brophy Track and Field.

Alumni Speaker Series – Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ken Kendrick to Headline Alumni Speaker Series (Open to Everyone in the Community).   On Wednesday, Nov. 7, Ken Kendrick, Arizona Diamondbacks managing general partner, will be our featured speaker in the 2018-19 Alumni Speaker Series. * It is open to the entire Brophy community. Mr. Kendrick’s talk will address “How You End Up Where You Are” and will be moderated by Tom Leander ’82. The evening’s program begins at 6 p.m. in Harper Great Hall on Brophy’s campus, with a reception following at 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend and you are welcome to bring a guest. BROPHY HOCKEY – JV beat Basha Perry 2-1 in a very physical game. Peter Warner and Owen Blake both put one in the net.  Varsity battled till the very end and came up short vs Pinnacle.  Nick Thomson scored and Michael Thomas had the assist.  Go Broncos!

Have you ever wanted to dress up as your favorite superhero, teacher or movie character? This is your chance!  Halloween is upon us and Wednesday, October 31st (Tomorrow) Brophy STUCO is encouraging you to wear a costume for $1!  As usual NO masks, face paint, cross-dressing or culturally insensitive costumes. If you’re questioning whether your costume is appropriate or not… it’s not, don’t wear it. Along with the costumes, The Office of Faith and Justice will be continuing their Boo Jeans week! If you do not plan on wearing a costume you can wear your favorite pair of jeans or a Brophy Halloween shirt!   To wear a costume, jeans or Brophy Halloween shirt you must either pay one dollar to your first-period class or donate a pair of lightly worn jeans or a pair of shoes to the OFJ before school.  So get your most creative costume (Batman and Robin, perhaps?) ready for tomorrow and bring $1 for a great cause!

A gunman entered the Tree of Life Synagogue and murdered 11 people during worship. Today, we wear blue to show support for the Pittsburgh community and to join in taking a stand against antisemitism. Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. Join us for campus tours and information on academic programs, co-curricular activities, financial aid, transportation, and the admissions process. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to students, faculty, administration, coaches, and parents. Students of all ages are invited to attend with their parents – it’s never too early to think about being a Brophy Bronco!

Tours will begin at 12:30 p.m. and leave approximately every 20 minutes. Check in at Harper Great Hall to begin your tour.    All ages are welcome                No dress code               No registration required

New Intramural Sport – One Bounce Volleyball is here – Click here for rules and to sign-up!  We understand that with any new sport there will be questions – don’t hesitate to find Coach Antonioli (FAntonioli@brophyprep.org) or shoot him a note if you want a little more information about how the game will be played.

Brophy TRACK AND FIELD coaches will lead a fitness training for BCP students on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-5pm from now until Christmas Break.  These sessions will include flexibility, speed, and speed endurance activity at BSC from 3 – 4:15, and then finish in the weight room from 4:20-5pm.  Consider track & field as a sport for you – it is fun to compete in any of the 18 events and you can build athleticism, explosiveness, and speed for your other sports.  Contact Mr. Kalkman with any questions about these workouts, or for information about Brophy Track and Field.

CONGRATULATIONS COACH CHRIS’ FRESHMAN TENNIS TEAM – The Broncos ended their Freshman Tennis season on Thursday evening.  Hack Strichartz led the way crushing his opponent in singles 8-0.  Casteel played very steady tennis and the Broncos fought hard but came up a little short.  However, all teams swept the doubles competition making the final score Casteel 5, Brophy 4.  Coach Chris was very proud of his team’s grit all the way to the last match of the season.  Way to finish gentlemen!

ATHLETICS

Brophy TRACK AND FIELD coaches will lead a fitness training for BCP students on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-5pm from now until Christmas Break.  These sessions will include flexibility, speed, and speed endurance activity at BSC from 3 – 4:15, and then finish in the weight room from 4:20-5pm.  Consider track & field as a sport for you – it is fun to compete in any of the 18 events and you can build athleticism, explosiveness, and speed for your other sports.  Contact Mr. Kalkman with any questions about these workouts, or for information about Brophy Track and Field.

CONGRATULATIONS FRESHMEN TENNIS Coach Chris’ Broncos defeated Chandler 9-0 Wednesday at the Phoenix Tennis Center.  Big wins were recorded by all the Broncos including Liam Chanin, Josh Lewis, Kyle Andrews, Jack Strichartz, and Reece Grell.  Also winning by default were Cal Wright and JC Solorio.  They play their last match Thursday against Casteel.  Atta Way Broncos!

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. CONGRATULATIONS COACH RAMSEY AND THE JV FOOTBALL The Big win against Basha last Thursday, 52-7, ended the JV season and finished Premier League play with a 3-1 record and an overall record of 6-1-2!

CONGRATULATIONS COACH KITNA AND VARSITY FOOTBALL – “The Broncos ended regular-season play Friday night with a 28-23 win over Basha and a 7-3 record. They have a bye this week (teams take a scheduled week off) with playoffs beginning Nov. 2. Thank you, Bronco fans, for your support! Let’s keep it going!”

CONGRATULATIONS COACH COOPER DAVIS AND THE BCP/XCP MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM for taking 3rd in yesterday’s race at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. It was a historic day for the Broncos and Gators with a best overall finish in team history. All riders played a huge role racing and cheering, but special shout-outs go to Hailey Schwartz, Heather Kwapazeski, Aidan Schwartz, James Eby, Mark Rossbach, Sam Wright, Jesse Beeth, and Erin Hill for their dominant performances.

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY HOCKEY:  JV beat Chaparral 3-2 this past weekend.  Ryan Gelinas put 2 pucks in the net and brother Jack Gelinas scored the 3rd goal.  Joseph Agnone was credited with an assist.  Go Broncos!

STOCK MARKET CLUB meets every Wednesday in B103. We talk about stocks, the financial system, and our portfolios in the Stock Market Game. The competition runs from Oct 1-April 30, but you do not have to be part of the SMG to participate in the club. Everyone is welcome.

YOUTH AND GOVERNMENTplease join us in D203 every Wednesday @ lunch, that is Dutch 203 for fun and great discussion. Making and discussing Mock Governmental Bills that solve the local challenges with Xavier and other Brophy students is a great time.

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!

Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. If you have questions, email Run for Justice.
