SCHEDULE:  2-3-M-B-5-1

TRANSITIONS MASS, 9:45 A.M.There is a beautiful (and helpful) theological connection made between Christ’s Resurrection and the Butterfly. The stages of suffering and death taking Christ into the tomb bringing about the Resurrection into new life are like the stages of the caterpillar moving through metamorphosis in the chrysalis emerging as a winged new creation. Both are disturbing and wonderful to behold. The butterfly undergoes transition because there is a process of change, and transformation because there is a change in appearance…but not quite transubstantiation.

Today’s Mass affirms Brophy’s role in helping young men grow spiritually, physically, and emotionally – and we can easily pick up on the different look and attitude that four years of experiences produces in our students. But what is the transubstantiation?  Transubstantiation is about the essence of a particular thing…what or who is it fundamentally. At Mass, this fundamental change in essence happens in the bread and wine consecrated. It looks the same and tastes the same, but we believe its essence is changed into the Real Presence of Jesus.  All three of these changes truly matter in a Brophy education because they bring together growth, learning, and faith.” Paul Fisko
