CONGRATULATIONS Coach O’Neill and the Brophy Swim Team The Brophy Swim & Dive team hosted Pinnacle High School yesterday at the Father Reece Aquatic Facility. Brophy won by a score of 137-48. All 3 of our relays took 1st place and second place in a dominating performance. First place winner were Mike Niezgodzki in 100 breast and 100 free, AJ Frakes in 100 fly, Matt Milovanovic  in the 200 free, Dane Nelson in 50 free, Patrick Schramm in 100 back  and Matt Herdegen in Diving. The boys came away with an impressive win win!!! A big thanks to all our fans, volunteers and parents that came out to support us. Great Job swimmers and divers, “Three Decades of Excellence” #30/40

The competition starts on October 2nd.  We meet Thursday’s at lunch in B103. The SMG is a virtual stock competition among Brophy students. It costs $10 to register. There are monthly prizes as well as prizes for the winners in April.

ATHLETICS

RUGBY!  After 30 years, Rugby is returning to Brophy. We need tough players with a taste for battle, and we welcome freshmen through seniors; Informational meeting TODAY, 3-4 PM in Mr. Middlemist’s room E211. The Rugby team will be coached by two Brophy grads with extensive playing and coaching experience: Tim Moran ’87 and Steve Ciarfalia ’05.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Middlemist at smiddlemist@brophyprep.org or come by Eller 211.

The 3-on-3 Basketball Intramural Tournament takes place next week.  Only registered intramural teams scheduled to play will be allowed on the courts during lunch.

Basketball Tryouts – There are mandatory meetings for all students interested in trying out for basketball this year at the beginning of lunch on Tuesday, October 10th.  Those meetings will be:

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY HOCKEY – This past Sunday, Sept 24th, our Varsity team beat the Desert Mountain Wolves, 5-3, with Kyle Tessmer’s hat trick (3 goals) and Michael Thomas’ 2 goals.  Assist went to Nick Thomson, Joey Grams, Johnny Sayegh, Jack Allen and Henry Nelson.  Way to go Varsity! Our JV was tied (1-1) going into the 3rd period, unfortunately, wtih 5 minutes left in the game, the Pinnacle Pioneers scored on a power play.  We lost 1-2 with our one goal going to Nilay Murty.  So close.  We will get them next time, JV.

Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Essay Competition – Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Essay competition ends on Saturday, Sept. 30.  There are cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place HS winners and each teacher associated with the winning student will win a $150 gift card for their class.

NHS Blood Drive:  Thursday, September 28th, 8:30AM-1:30PM.  Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds.  If you are 16 or 17 you will need your parent’s signature on a Minor Donor Permit.  These will be handed out Monday through Thursday at lunch outside HGH.  Once the signed permit slip is returned you can sign up for a donation slot.  For those 18 and over no permission slip is necessary.  No walk-ins are allowed so please plan accordingly.  Get your permission slip and get it in fast for the best time slot.  The Mother’s Guild will be on hand to give the donors lots of TLC and something to eat.  Your donation goes a long way in saving lives.

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM – The Broncos and Gators had another solid showing this past weekend in Prescott placing 9th overall. Freshman Marc Rossbach, sophomore Patrick Hinkle, and Senior Michael Hemmerlin lead the point scoring for the Broncos. On the Xavier side with a tremendous performance Erin Hill and Heather Kwapiszeski landed on the podium taking 4th and 5th respectively. Also a special shout out goes to Justin Guidera who finished the 18 mile race after crashing hard right out of the gate.

Learn about Careers in the Technology Industry: The first event in the career series presented by the Dad’s Club will be TODAY @ lunch, HGH. It will feature parents and alumni talking about their experiences working in the technology industry and will include engineers, computer scientists, entrepreneurs, executives of tech industry companies, and more.  If you have a passion for math, science, computers, or you don’t know what you want to do yet, please join us! RUGBY!  After 30 years, Rugby is returning to Brophy. We need tough players with a taste for battle, and we welcome freshmen through seniors.  Informational meetings TODAY & Thursday, September 28th from 3:00-4:00 PM in Mr. Middlemist’s room E211. The Rugby team will be coached by two Brophy grads with extensive playing and coaching experience: Tim Moran ’87 and Steve Ciarfalia ’05.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Middlemist at smiddlemist@brophyprep.org or come by Eller 211.

The Xavier Badminton program is having their Badminton “Dollar Day” TODAY, XCP Gym, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.  They are inviting the Brophy community to participate.  It is a chance to have some fun and show off your mad Badminton skills. For $1.00 you can challenge one of the players.  If you win you keep the dollar, and if the Badminton player wins the program keeps the $1.00.  We will have water and snacks available (donation).

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

 

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY SWIM AND DIVE – The Brophy Swim & Dive team hosted and competed in our 37 team Brophy/Xavier Swim & Dive Invitational meet this past Saturday with most of the top teams in the state. Brophy placed first and dominated with a total score of 456 points, well ahead of second place Chap that scored only 342 points. All three of our relays took first place and won gold medals. Mike Niezgodzki, AJ Frakes and Matt Milovanovic and Parker Hughes broke a meet record and set a new facility record in the 400 free Relay. The 200 free relay of AJ Frakes, Dane Nelson, Dlyan Krueger and Parker Hughes also broke a meet record. Individual events winners were Patrick Schramm taking a gold in the 100 breaststroke and Mike Niezgodzki, won the 100 Fly.  An unbelievable total of 36 swims achieved state qualify times, all these young men swam and dove exceptionally well at the primer invitational of the year and came away with a win!!! A big thanks to all our fans, volunteers and parents that put this amazing event together and caome out to support us. Great Job swimmers and divers, “Three Decades of Excellance” #30/40

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY HOCKEY – Both teams won their first game of the regular season this past Saturday. Varsity came back this week and beat the Basha Perry Bears 4-3 in a nail biting back and forth battle.  Jack Peterson had the first goal of the game, followed by a pure hat trick (3 goals in a row) by Jack Allen.  Way to go Jack’s!  Assist went to Nick Thomson and Kyle Tessmer.  For JV they crushed the Chaparral Firebirds, in a 7-3 victory.  Nilay Murty dominated with 4 goals, Peter Warner scored 2 goals, and Dawson Dewer and Michael Collins each put 1 in the net.   Assists went to all the scorers previously mentioned plus Christopher Clark and Quentin De More-Mack.  Way to Go Broncos!

CONGRATULATIONS CHESS – It took 16 hours of chess over 2 days, but Brophy emerged victorious again at the AIA Individual Invitational at NDP, this past weekend.  Players Dave Mohan, Herman Sanghera, Rahul Reddy, Lukas Villalba, Frederic Duquella, Peter Moore, Ryan Huerta, and Ethan Hasson represented for Brophy against a field of 200 players from the entire state.  When the dust settled, Dave Mohan won first place and Herman Sanghera took fifth place in the varsity section and Ryan Huerta tied for third in the junior varsity section.  Great job, Broncos!

Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Essay Competition – Only 6 days left; Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Essay competition ends on Saturday, Sept. 30.  There are cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place HS winners and each teacher associated with the winning student will win a $150 gift card for their class.

NHS Blood Drive:  Thursday, September 28th, 8:30AM-1:30PM.  Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds.  If you are 16 or 17 you will need your parent’s signature on a Minor Donor Permit.  These will be handed out Monday through Thursday at lunch outside HGH.  Once the signed permit slip is returned you can sign up for a donation slot.  For those 18 and over no permission slip is necessary.  No walk-ins are allowed so please plan accordingly.  Get your permission slip and get it in fast for the best time slot.  The Mother’s Guild will be on hand to give the donors lots of TLC and something to eat.  Your donation goes a long way in saving lives.

BROPHY STOCK MARKET GAME: Any student who wants to play the Stock Market Game needs to pay their registration fee to the Business Office and turn in their yellow registration from to Ms. Guffey in B103 THIS WEEK! The competition starts on October 2nd.  We meet Thursday’s at lunch in B103. The SMG is a virtual stock competition among Brophy students. It costs $10 to register. There are monthly prizes as well as prizes for the winners in April.

National Merit Commended Students – Congratulations to the following seniors who have been named National Merit Commended Students:  Frazier Abbajay, Gage Burkes, Jett Curley, Sam Fallon, Peter Halligan, Kaleb Lucero, Owen Murphy, Michael Murphy, Michael Niebling, Kurtis Ottman, Will Ramsey, Herman Sanghera, Max Schwartz, Krishna Sinha, Ryan Slawson, Shikhar Srivastava and Matthew Zacher.

While these students will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, they are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  They were among the top 50,000 scorers of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition by taking the PSAT last fall.  Congratulations, Gentlemen.

The team was led by an outstanding singles victory from Evan Broer and a ferocious doubles win from William Hays and Kincaid Vineyard. Although the team was short on players, they managed to persevere. Go Broncos!

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY SWIM AND DIVE TEAM who competed against Desert Vista High School yesterday and won big!! We scored 125 to DV at 58.  We won all 3 relays and Individual first place winners were, Matt Herdegen in diving, Matt Milovanovic in the 100 free, Mike Niexgodzki in the 200 free, and Mike Frakes in the backstroke, Jake Kwapiszeski in the breast and AJ Frakes in the 50.  These young men continue swim and dive well on our way to the state meet! A big thanks to all our fans and parents that came out to Chandler to support us. Great Job swimmers and divers, “Three Decades of Excellence”

NHS Blood Drive:  Thursday, September 28th, 8:30AM-1:30PM.  Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds.  If you are 16 or 17 you will need your parent’s signature on a Minor Donor Permit.  These will be handed out Monday through Thursday at lunch outside HGH.  Once the signed permit slip is returned you can sign up for a donation slot.  For those 18 and over no permission slip is necessary.  No walk-ins are allowed so please plan accordingly.  Get your permission slip and get it in fast for the best time slot.  The Mother’s Guild will be on hand to give the donors lots of TLC and something to eat.  Your donation goes a long way in saving lives.

The Xavier Badminton program is having their Badminton “Dollar Day” on Tuesday, September 26th, XCP Gym, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.  They are inviting the Brophy community to participate.  It is a chance to have some fun and show off your mad Badminton skills. For $1.00 you can challenge one of the players.  If you win you keep the dollar, and if the Badminton player wins the program keeps the $1.00.  We will have water and snacks available (donation).

MANDATORY SOCCER TRYOUT MEETING – Next Wednesday, Sept. 27 @ lunch, NE corner HGH.  If you desire to try out for soccer, you must attend this meeting

FRESHMEN FB TEAM RESULTS – The Freshman Football Team battled to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night against the Mesa Mountain View Toros. The Red and White squads fought with pride in hostile territory to earn the split decision. The Baby Broncos return to action next Wednesday in a road tilt against the Hamilton Huskies.

In singles, the team was led by Kincaid Vinyard, Ryan Fabry, Mike Callahan, and Evan Broer, who all won their matches. In doubles, Mike Callahan and William Hays won after a long match. Freshman Tennis Team A takes on Notre Dame High School on Thursday. Go Broncos!

CONGRATULATIONS FROSH TENNIS – It was another great victory for the Broncos! Frosh B jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead with singles victories from Arjun Nair, Gavin Kurtz, Dylan Sabatino, Henry Becker, and Luis Lopez-Rivera. However, the Broncos faced some adversity in doubles play when Arjun was stuck by a bee in the middle of the match. Arjun, along with partner Bowei Wang, responded by stinging the other team in a 8-3 triumph!

Finance Club this year!  Our first meeting is TODAY @ LUNCH, E210.  We are pleased to announce that we are having Mr. Widbin come and speak about his experiences as a pharmaceutical consultant in NYC before teaching at Brophy.  He will speak about his experiences with Corporate America and how its values didn’t line up with the Catholic/Jesuit principles.  Mr. Widbin will also touch on what it means to be a “business guy” coming from a place like BCP.

NHS Blood Drive:  Thursday, September 28th, 8:30AM-1:30PM.  Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds.  If you are 16 or 17 you will need your parent’s signature on a Minor Donor Permit.  These will be handed out Monday through Thursday at lunch outside HGH.  Once the signed permit slip is returned you can sign up for a donation slot.  For those 18 and over no permission slip is necessary.  No walk-ins are allowed so please plan accordingly.  Get your permission slip and get it in fast for the best time slot.  The Mother’s Guild will be on hand to give the donors lots of TLC and something to eat.  Your donation of blood goes a long way in saving lives.

Basketball Open Gyms –Over the next 2 months, Brophy Basketball will run Open Gym opportunities in The Dutch from 2-3:30pm on the Fridays listed below.  These Open Gyms are open to any Brophy student that would like to participate, however, any athletes that are playing a fall sport must get the permission of their head coach prior to participating in an Open Gym.  Players should be sure to check the daily and weekly bulletins for any schedule changes that may arise.

BROPHY HOCKEY RESULTS – The recap of the games from this past Sunday night: The Varsity team went up against the Basha Perry Bears. We lost 1-2. Our one goal was scored by Connor Hill, recently off the injury list, and assisted by Kyle Tessmer.  The JV team battled hard in a really physical game and came up short against the Hamilton Huskies.  They lost 0-2 in the end. We will get them both next time.  Go Broncos.

Finance Club this year!  Our first meeting is this Wednesday @ LUNCH, E210.  We are pleased to announce that we are having Mr. Widbin come and speak about his experiences as a pharmaceutical consultant in NYC before teaching at Brophy.  He will speak about his experiences with Corporate America and how its values didn’t line up with the Catholic/Jesuit principles.  Mr. Widbin will also touch on what it means to be a “business guy” coming from a place like BCP.

BLAM. The Brophy Literary & Arts Magazine‘s first contests of the year are Beyond Binary (creative writing): “Write a short story with two divergent endings,” and Black & White (art): “Create a piece of art using only black and white.” View the contest posters in the daily bulletin. CONGRATULATIONS EAGLE SCOUTS – Seniors Reese Galvin and Joe Hart who achieved the Eagle Scout rank last week.  Reese completed his project at the Chrysalis Shelter and Joe did his at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Congratulations to Reese and Joe on a great achievement!

JVFB RESULTS FROM LAST THURSDAY – Tough road game for the JV team. No fight or quit in them, they’ll take their Great Spirit and effort into our next home game against Mountain View on Thursday.

CONGRATULATIONS CROSS COUNTRY – The Broncos competed in the 45-school Ojo Rojo Invitational and the varsity squad finished 6th. Grant Smith ran an outstanding race after losing a shoe. Brophy dominated the open division in 1st place behind great runs from Andrew Duque, Chris Stanek, and Aidan McGuire. Congrats Brophy XC.

NHS Blood Drive:  Thursday, September 28th, 8:30AM-1:30PM.  Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds.  If you are 16 or 17 you will need your parent’s signature on a Minor Donor Permit.  These will be handed out Monday through Thursday at lunch outside HGH.  Once the signed permit slip is returned you can sign up for a donation slot.  For those 18 and over no permission slip is necessary.  No walk-ins are allowed so please plan accordingly.  Get your permission slip and get it in fast for the best time slot.  The Mother’s Guild will be on hand to give the donors lots of TLC and something to eat.  Your donation of blood goes a long way in saving lives.

RUBIK’S CUBE CLUB – We are a group of people who enjoy solving Rubik’s cubes and other twisty puzzles. Whether you’ve never solved a cube before or you’ve been solving for years, we are open to everybody! We meet Thursdays at lunch in P120. Sign up here

BROPHY STOCK MARKET GAME: Please pay your registration fee to the business office and then bring your form to Ms. Guffey in B103. We meet on Thursdays at lunch in B103. The competition starts on October 2nd.  We meet Thursday’s at lunch in B103. The SMG is a virtual stock competition among Brophy students. It costs $10 to register. There are monthly prizes as well as prizes for the winners in April.

Basketball Open Gyms –Over the next 2 months, Brophy Basketball will run Open Gym opportunities in The Dutch from 2-3:30pm on the Fridays listed below.  These Open Gyms are open to any Brophy student that would like to participate, however, any athletes that are playing a fall sport must get the permission of their head coach prior to participating in an Open Gym.  Players should be sure to check the daily and weekly bulletins for any schedule changes that may arise.

RUGBY!  After 30 years, Rugby is returning to Brophy.
