Animation of how much the sun will be affected here:  https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/phoenix

Make sure not to look directly at the sun (you should never do that!).  Sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not designed to protect you from staring at the sun.  If you can make it outside, you can view the shadow of the earth across the sun using a pinhole projector. There are directions are on making one here: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/make-pinhole-projector.html
