OFFICE OF FAITH AND JUSTICE

3 Days for Haiti – collections this week – 6th periods (5th, Fri) It only took 3 days…for Hurricane Matthew to devastate much of southern Haiti – nearly 1000 Haitians killed by the storm, towns and villages washed or blown away, this year’s harvest completely destroyed, and flooding that has tripled the threat of water-born diseases.  We hope you’ll help in this 3-day week as we collect money (6th period – T-Th and 5th period – F) for the urgent needs of people we know in Haiti. Chances for Children will make sure our donations provide the right kind of aid.

Brophy has a personal relationship with the orphans in the community of Kenscoff, Haiti – our donations will go to providing clean water, baby formula, and rebuilding projects and much more.  So, what can we do in 3 days; whatever we can give? Please consider having some extra dollars and cents this week – whatever you can spare – to spare our brothers and sisters in Haiti from the aftermath of this tragedy.

Mass on the border – This Sunday, there will be a special Mass celebrated along the U.S.-Mexico border in Nogales. The Mass will be concelebrated by Bishop José Leopoldo González of the Diocese of Nogales, Bishop Gerald Kicanas of the Diocese of Tucson, and the U.S. Apostolic Nuncio, Christophe Pierre.  This is a powerful reminder that in a world that is craving walls, the Church has long established the understanding of bridging differences by loving one another. In recognition of this belief, any interested Brophy student is obviously welcome to attend. We will meet in Brophy’s South Parking lot at 10:45AM and depart by 11AM. Should the mass be longer than one hour, we will return by 8PM latest on Sunday evening. Since we’ll be gathering on the U.S. side, even those who do not have a passport will be able to participate. Please let me know by response of this email at your soonest availability if you are interested in joining us in this beautiful celebration. If you plan on attending, you must pick-up a permission slip by the end of the day today in the OFJ.
