BRAVO!  What an incredible opening night performance by the cast and crew of Romeo and Juliet! Congrats to all of the students – on the stage, in the shop, and in the control room. A simply magnificent effort last night by all of you. Thanks to Ms. Dias and Mr. Kelly for their work in guiding the students to this wonderful night.  Tickets ($10) are still available until 1 p.m. today through Ms. Dennard for tonight and tomorrow night’s shows – but get them quick as opening night was almost a sellout. There’s a good chance we will not have tickets at the door!  See you at the show this weekend!  Shows run TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT, 7 p.m. Shows will resume after Thanksgiving break on November 29, 30 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available from Ms. Dennard in the Student Activity Center, or at the door! We hope to see you at the show!

BLAM. BLAM is sponsoring two new contests in the lead-up to the Fine Arts Extravaganza. The writing contest asks you to “write a script that begins with a knock on a door.” The art contest asks you to “combine at least two mediums to create a piece of art that plays with perspective.” DeadlineNovember 19 through the BLAM submission link in the bulletin.

BRONCOS FOR LIFE SPEAKER, Monday, Nov. 19 @ lunch, K10 – The Broncos for Life are hosting Elizabeth Van Wie who will be sharing her personal experience of facing an unplanned pregnancy.   It will be in K10 on November 19th at Lunch. She will give a personal testimony on the challenges facing women today.  All are welcome to join!

A Request from Andre House – Andre House is requesting participants for its annual Thanksgiving Eve Memorial Service and candlelight vigil to honor and pray for the souls of those who died without family or any loved ones present. The ceremony is held at the White Tanks Memorial Cemetery where the indigent deceased of Maricopa County are buried. Please see the following flyers for more information. Join the Dream On Campaign for “A Dream to Educate” on Wednesday, November 28th, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the Harper Great Hall at Brophy College Preparatory.    RSVP here!  Inspired by our Catholic faith and commitment to human dignity, we invite you to join to listen to the stories of two students whose struggle to create a better life due to their of access to an affordable college education in Arizona. Along with a number of partner organizations and the larger Jesuit community, we will learn about the reality that our students and community members face.  This event is open to the public, all are invited!

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. BROPHY FINE ARTS EXTRAVAGANZA (FAE) is coming up on November 20, 6-9 p.m.!  Modeled after First Friday in Downtown Phoenix, our evening will feature:

  • Multiple art galleries around campus including hundreds of 2D, 3D and video works
  • Student musicians/performers in multiple venues covering everything from jazz, choir, garage band rock, and solo acoustic performances!
  • Poetry and prose readings
  • Food trucks, coffee, and snacks
  • and a few more surprises!

In past years, there has been so much going on you literally couldn’t see it all, and this year will be the same. Please consider joining us to see the great work our students produce. It is a family-friendly event with free admission. Enter through either the south or north parking lot.

The E.L.F Drive (Extending Love to Families) begins soon (Monday, Nov 26) and we hope you’ll adopt a family that needs assistance this holiday season.  These families live below the poverty line and have at least one child with developmental disabilities. Our pantry and gift donations really do make their Christmas.  If your family, your department, your club, your team, or your particular period class would like to join in this elvish endeavor, contact Mrs. Sue Hornbeck. We will get you the info you need to help out.  Food pantry items and wrapped gifts will be due to the Black Box Theater by 12noon on Monday, December 17.  Behind every great ELF, there’s a Bronco.

BLAM. BLAM is sponsoring two new contests in the lead-up to the Fine Arts Extravaganza. A Request from Andre House – Andre House is requesting participants for its annual Thanksgiving Eve Memorial Service and candlelight vigil to honor and pray for the souls of those who died without family or any loved ones present. Brophy/Xavier Fall Play – ROMEO and JULIET The Brophy and Xavier theatre departments will produce “Romeo and Juliet,” directed by Maureen Dias, as this season’s fall play. Shows run Nov. 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. Shows will resume after Thanksgiving break on November 29, 30 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available from cast members, Ms. Dennard in the Student Activity Center, or at the door! We hope to see you at the show!

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. BROPHY FINE ARTS EXTRAVAGANZA (FAE) is coming up on November 20, 6-9 p.m.!  Modeled after First Friday in Downtown Phoenix, our evening will feature:

  • Multiple art galleries around campus including hundreds of 2D, 3D and video works
  • Student musicians/performers in multiple venues covering everything from jazz, choir, garage band rock, and solo acoustic performances!
  • Poetry and prose readings
  • Food trucks, coffee, and snacks
  • and a few more surprises!

In past years, there has been so much going on you literally couldn’t see it all, and this year will be the same. Please consider joining us to see the great work our students produce. It is a family-friendly event with free admission. Enter through either the south or north parking lot.

CONGRATULATIONS Cross Country aka the running Broncos Hetman, Acuna, Gonzalez, Whitehouse, Black, Ripple, and Duque. On Saturday they had the 2nd-best state meet score in Brophy history, but epic performances by Desert Vista and Highland pushed the team into 3rd place Division I. A phenomenal season, and thank you all for the Red Army support!

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY CREW San Diego Fall Classic Regatta!  The freshman 8s placed 2nd and 3rd in their event. Great job at your first race! A big shout out to the Varsity team! The JV double finished in 2nd.  The Varsity Quad, Aidan Rowland ‘19, Alex Edwin ‘19, Joe Gilligan ‘19 and Tony Ramirez ‘19 placed second with heavy competition this year! Also, a big shout out to the lightweight varsity Quad, Ryan Sullivan ‘19, Ayaan Patel ‘19, Bryce Blair ‘21, and Kaleo Bolosan ‘19, who placed 5th.

Brophy/Xavier Fall Play – ROMEO and JULIET The Brophy and Xavier theatre departments will produce “Romeo and Juliet,” directed by Maureen Dias, as this season’s fall play. BLAM. BLAM is sponsoring two new contests in the lead-up to the Fine Arts Extravaganza. The writing contest asks you to “write a script that begins with a knock on a door.” The art contest asks you to “combine at least two mediums to create a piece of art that plays with perspective.” Deadline: November 19 through the BLAM submission link in the bulletin.

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. BROPHY FINE ARTS EXTRAVAGANZA (FAE) is coming up on November 20, 6-9 p.m!  Modeled after First Friday in Downtown Phoenix, our evening will feature:

  • Multiple art galleries around campus including hundreds of 2D, 3D and video works
  • Student musicians/performers in multiple venues covering everything from jazz, choir, garage band rock, and solo acoustic performances!
  • Poetry and prose readings
  • Food trucks, coffee and snacks
  • and a few more surprises!

In past years, there has been so much going on you literally couldn’t see it all, and this year will be the same. Please consider joining us to see the great work our students produce. It is a family-friendly event with free admission. Enter through either the south or north parking lot.

We want to display all of the different cultures and backgrounds here at Brophy and we want to see if any of you would be interested in contributing to the Brophy Culture Project FAE event.

Run for Justice 5K – Registration Is Open!  Register here for the inaugural Brophy Run for Justice 5K scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8! The race starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the Brophy Sports Campus. The cost is $30 for adults over 18 and $20 for ages 6-18. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Proceeds from the event will go to Kino Border Initiative, Family to Family Foundation and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. The Brophy Fine Arts Extravaganza is coming up on November 20, 6-9 p.m.! This is an awesome time for those involved in the arts to showcase what they’re all about and we here at Brophy Culture Project want to extend that opportunity to everyone else! We want to display all of the different cultures and backgrounds here at Brophy and we want to see if any of you would be interested in contributing to the Brophy Culture Project FAE event.

Here you’ll find a google form that details the different opportunities to contribute to the Brophy Culture Project FAE event. Feel free to read it over and check any and all of the things you’d be interested in contributing to the FAE!

You DO NOT need to perform or display “traditional” acts/art to take part. Are you an expert yo-yoer or an accomplished magician? You can join in too! Brophy wants anyone and everyone to contribute to this year’s FAE in one way or another.

Simply email myself and Chris Stanek (cstanek19@brophybroncos.org) with what you’d like to display, perform, submit, and we’ll take it from there! We’ll take submissions and acts until Midnight on Sunday, November 11th.

Modeled after First Friday in Downtown Phoenix, our evening will feature:

  • Multiple art galleries around campus including hundreds of 2D, 3D and video works
  • Student musicians/performers in multiple venues covering everything from jazz, choir, garage band rock, and solo acoustic performances!
  • Poetry and prose readings
  • Food trucks, coffee and snacks

Hockey Update:  Varsity and JV teams did a great job this past weekend.  Dean Angelo scored two goals, Nick Thomson, Josh Peterson, Jack Stooks and Ryan Gelinas each put on in the net with assists going to Joel Tessmer, Connor Pitts, and Owen Blake.

CONGRATULATIONS BROPHY’S HONOR CHORALE – Last Thursday the Honor Chorale participated in the ‘Fall Choral Festival’ sponsored by the Arizona Choral Educators Association (ACE).  The event was held at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.  Mr. Olson is pleased to announce that the chorale earned a rating of ‘Superior’, the highest rating available. Not only did they perform in an outstanding manner on stage, they also represented themselves, their school and their families in an admirable manner from the moment they stepped on campus.

ATHLETICS

Tonight, the Xavier Volleyball is playing in the State Volleyball Finals, 8 p.m., ASU’s Wells Fargo Arena.  Admission is $5 for students $10 for adults.  Xavier has rooter buses, if you would like to go on their bus, you will need to go and sign up in the athletic office at XCP.  Those driving should park on the east side of the Wells Fargo Arena and students will sit in Xavier’s sections.  They would love our support!

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

CONGRATULATIONS COACH COOPER DAVIS AND THE BROPHY/XAVIER MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM for a great race on Sunday and for a strong finish of what was the best season in program history. Junior Aidan Schwartz became the first Bronco to win the State Championship in his category. Congrats also to Junior Jesse Beeth and Sophomore Mark Rossbach for taking 2nd and 3rd in the state. Congratulations also to Seniors Justin Guidera and Andrew Atencia for finishing their high school career with personal best races. Overall the team finished 4th place in division 1 on the season.

SHOUT OUT TO THE BROPHY YMCA BASKETBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM – This past Saturday night, the ChickenDogs, a team comprised of all Brophy Juniors, went on the road to the Glendale/Peoria YMCA to beat Team White from Glendale in dominating fashion, 55-38, to win the championship in their bracket of the West Valley and Northeast Valley YMCA High School Tournament.  With their victory in the Finals, the ChickenDogs punched their ticket to the YMCA Valley Wide Finals this Wednesday night (11/7) at 9:00 PM at Talking Stick Resort Arena (yes, the Sun’s arena!) against the Southeast Valley champion.  Get your homework done early and come to Downtown Phoenix and stay up late to cheer on your Class of ’20 Broncos: Charlie Beaver, Tom Brier, Connor Camunez, Nick Dolasinski, Nick McElenney, Jack Nethers, Sam Scanlon, Nick Thompson, and Sam Wright.

 Alumni Speaker Series – Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ken Kendrick to Headline Alumni Speaker Series (Open to Everyone in the Community.  Wednesday, Nov. 7, Ken Kendrick, Arizona Diamondbacks managing general partner, will be our featured speaker in the 2018-19 Alumni Speaker Series. * It is open to the entire Brophy community. Mr. Kendrick’s talk will address “How You End Up Where You Are” and will be moderated by Tom Leander ’82. The evening’s program begins at 6 p.m. in Harper Great Hall on Brophy’s campus, with a reception following at 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend and you are welcome to bring a guest. The event is sponsored by Mr. James Goodnow ’99 and Mrs. Erin Ryan Goodnow.
