Director of Equity and Inclusion – Ms. Deena Sellers

The Office of Equity and Inclusion is buzzing with activity. From social media to student and parent affinity group meetings, to event planning and production, we are thrilled to serve the Brophy community as a home for underrepresented members of our school family and their allies.

For those who believe and celebrate, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! In the spirit of the season, please consider these dos and don’ts of cultural appropriation when choosing a costume (if that’s your thing) …

1) Blackface is NEVER okay. Someone else’s culture or race – or an offensive idea of it – should never be a costume or the butt of a joke.

2) It’s important to pay homage to artistry and ideas and acknowledge their origins. Dressing in an outfit inspired by a BIPOC, Asian, or Middle Eastern cultural reference is best represented by a designer from that racial or ethnic identity.

3) Don’t adopt sacred artifacts as accessories. This means Native American headdresses, Japanese kimonos, Jamaican locs, and other cultural identifiers: they may be "cool" or "stylish" to you, but for those groups items like this mean something much more than most people realize.

Thanks for your consideration, and we hope that you enjoy all the festivities and stay safe!!

Varsity Hockey solidly defeated the Campo Verde Coyotes 9-0 at the Chandler Ice Den on Sunday night. The Broncos came ready to play as team captain Finn Forster ’23 found freshman Blake Burr just 36 seconds into the first period to put the Broncos on the board and set the tone for the rest of the game. Nathan Dryden ’24 had the first assist of the second period, following 2 unassisted goals by Forster, while freshmen Jack Nolan and Burr each scored powerplay goals following piercing assists by Cooper Pitts ’23 and Cooper Flynn ’24. Flynn added 2 more assists in the second period and managed to stay out of the penalty box the entire game, no doubt to avoid grabbing the league’s top spot for most penalty minutes by a single player. Nolan and fellow defenseman Cort Ostendorf ’23 scored their first goals in a Bronco uniform, contributing to the offensive attack while helping the team’s defense maintain a solid lockdown at the net. Goalie Charlie Dentz ’22 earned his first shutout of the season, making 24 saves and now leading the league in Goals Against Average and Save Percentage.

JV suffered a 3-2 loss to the Corona Aztecs earlier in the day. Junior Ethen Niederkofler had an unassisted powerplay goal in the first period while senior Cole Rassas scored in the third with an assist from sophomore Nathan Dryden. Goalie Curry Wilga ’24 had a solid performance in net, saving 20 of 23 shots on goal.
