Brophy Crew places 5th in the Nation

Brophy Oar-fbBrophy Crew placed 5th in the nation on Sunday at the USRowing Youth Nationals Men’s Youth 4x A Final race. Congratulations to Max Hall ’14 (UC Berkeley), Andy Herstam ’14 (Saint Louis U ), Ben Crozier ’14 (U of Virginia), Nick Webb ‘15.

Rowers Nick Gross ’16 and Matt Govig ’15 placed 5th in the C Final in the Lightweight Double race, making them 17th in the country.

Alumnus Kyle Chalmers ’13 named Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s freshman Kyle Chalmers was named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Chalmers won four out of five matches he competed in to earn the award.

Chalmers cruised to straight-sets victories in both of his singles matches. On March 11, he defeated Mark Troiano of Wabash, 6-2, 6-1, in the third flight, and on March 15, he earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over St. Bonaventure’s Celso de Vera Rehberger.

In doubles play, Chalmers teamed with Tristan Boustany for a first-flight win over the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. He also split a pair of matches alongside Andres Urrea, winning against Wabash in the second flight before falling in a tiebreak to a duo from St. Bonaventure in a top-flight tilt.

The Hawks will travel to Delaware for a match on Thursday afternoon.

Christopher Beall ’12 signs with Bellingham Bells

2012 Beall, christopherBrophy alumnus Christopher Beall ’12 recently signed with the Bellingham Bells for the 2013 summer season. The Bells are a summer, wood bat, collegiate baseball team that plays in the West Coast League (www.wccbl.com)

Beall, a 6’2 outfielder at Arizona State rounds out the Bells outfield this summer which sits at five. He earned All-State D1 honors with Brophy in 2012. In Christopher’s senior year, he hit .420, with 50 RBIs and 9 home runs.

Bells assistant coach Jim Clem said of Beall, “(He) is a talented outfielder that can swing well from the left side. Chris had to wait his turn this spring as a freshman, but he’s an outstanding player who will be instrumental to our success this summer.” As a true freshman, Beall has appeared in five games for the #21 ranked team in the country.
